RSI Repetitive Strain Injury treatment at RSI Clinics in the UK
Anne Cruickshank

Anne Cruickshank is director and joint lead therapist at RSI Clinics Ltd and director of Myofascial Release Clinic UK, specialising in the treatment of RSI and other soft tissue pain conditions, stress-related syndromes and immune system dysfunctions such as fibromyalgia and all mind-body responses to emotional stress and physical trauma.

Anne graduated from Sussex University in 1979 with an honours degree in Philosophy in the School of European Studies. Within a year she was training to teach Lotte Berk Method exercise, the challenging Pilates and dance-based exercise method with Lotte Berk herself at her London studios. Since then Anne has run Lotte Berk and Pilates studios in Brighton and Lewes, and later in Barcombe, East Sussex. She was a teacher of Modern Foreign Languages and Philosophy for 9 years, and during her time in the Education was responsible for Initial Teacher Training (teaching others to become teachers). She continued her practice and education in bodywork during her career in education and in 1999 left teaching to open a private bodywork practice in Barcombe. Specific training and her own research into body and mind approaches to pain conditions and trauma has led Anne to form the Myofascial Release Clinic UK, where she treats clients with complex soft tissue pain and immune system conditions. She also runs courses in Myofascial Release in conjunction with Rachel Fairweather, director of Jing Advanced Massage Institute, passing on her experience to talented bodyworkers, massage therapists, osteopaths and physiotherapists.

Anne's ongoing Craniosacral, Myofascial Release and Visceral Manipulation training has been with several internationally acclaimed top trainers and institutes, reflecting her belief that there is no 'one true way' of Myofascial Release and that each and every master of the field has his or her own wisdom and experience to offer:

Jean-Pierre Barral, Europe, US and London - Visceral Osteopathy for the Abdomen and the Thorax; Osteopathic Approach to Trauma

Research and clinical trials
Clinical trials in the effectiveness of Myofascial Release on certain conditions are currently under way at the Myofascial Release Clinic UK. Further trials are planned in the area of menstrual problems in conjunction with Rachel Fairweather of the Jing Advanced Massage Institute. If you would like to be involved in these trials, which we hope to start during 2006, and live in the Brighton / Lewes area, or are able to travel there, please let us know. If you have completed training in MFR with us and would like to be involved with running these trials, please also get in touch.

Pilates and Myofascial Release
Anne's Pilates training is with Body Control Pilates, London and Pilates Solutions, London. She now specialises in Pilates for Myofascial Release, having developed training programmes for Pilates teachers.

Psycho-neuro-immunology
Further research has taken Anne into the field of psycho-neuro-immunology, and her training and qualifications here are with Performance Enhancement (INLPTA) in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Hypnosis and Accelerated Learning. In conjunction with her work in applied psycho-neuro-immunology she has developed myofascial release programmes for full mind-body integration.

Psychotherapeutic understanding and counselling
Anne has trained in Somato Emotional Release with Upledger UK and Human Givens (Mindfield College) in a model of brief therapy from psychiatry, psychotherapy and counselling; she is currently in training for Trauma Healing and Somatic Experiencing, Peter Levine, US and London.

Training centre
Anne runs postgraduate Myofascial Release courses for massage therapists, osteopaths, physiotherapists and other bodyworkers, and Pilates for Myofascial Release training courses for qualified Pilates teachers. These take place in Brighton, UK and at the Myofascial Release Clinic. For more information please contact her at the clinic.

Anne has also been an interpretor, and a languages teacher in comprehensive schools. She runs Bradness Gallery with her husband, landscape painter Michael Cruickshank, at their home in the Sussex countryside.

Amanda Oswald

Amanda Oswald is director and joint lead therapist at RSI Clinics Ltd and is also the director and lead therapist at Feel Good Massage Therapies based in Brighton, specialising in the treatment of injuries and chronic pain conditions, whether caused by sports, accidents or the general wear & tear of daily life.

Amanda has a background in business, qualifying with a BA Honours in International Marketing from the University of Greenwich in 1982 and a Master of Business Administration from The Open University in 1993. These qualifications led her to a career in buying and marketing that spanned over 20 years, during which time she held senior positions with a variety of retail and wholesale companies in the UK and abroad.

A keen sports woman, Amanda played rugby for Saracens and London Region for a number of years, following which she took up long distance running and successfully completed the London and Edinburgh marathons, as well as several half-marathons. As a therapist she has since provided event massage treatments at the London Bike Ride, Sussex Beacon Half Marathon and English Bowls Championships.

It is this interest in sports, and the subsequent trauma caused to the body by injury, that led Amanda to study massage, first completing an ITEC diploma in Holistic Massage at the Wilbury School in Brighton in 2006, and then qualifying in Sports Massage the following year.

Since her first qualification in 2006, Amanda has continued to study bodywork techniques and to develop her specialist skills. Her training has included:

Jing Advanced Massage
the advanced medical massage series;
hot stone and onsite massage courses;
clinical anatomy – a 9 month course involving detailed study of the neuromuscular, skeletal, fascial and connective systems of the body with specific reference to hands-on bodywork.

Jing Advanced Massage & the Myofascial Release Clinic
foundation and advanced myofascial release training including craniosacral techniques and the treatment of fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and related conditions.

The Upledger Institute UK
craniosacral therapy techniques.

Amanda continues to train with a number of internationally recognised trainers to further develop and enhance her knowledge and skills in relation to the effective treatment of chronic pain conditions by using a combination of techniques tailored to the individual requirements of each client:

Jean Pierre Barral – visceral manipulation
Professor Eyal Ledermann – body harmonics
Sense of Self – healing trauma (based on the work of Peter Levine)
